Joshua M. Freeman Firefighter of the Year Award - Bear Trap Dunes, Ocean View, DE
Friday, February 15, 2013

I am pleased to report that one of our members recently received the 2013 Joshua M. Freeman Firefighter of the Year Award for his dedicated service and commitment to the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company. On Friday 2/15/2013 firefighter Patrick Quigley was recognized for his grant writing skills that has netted the fire company nearly $250,000 in federal and state grant funds over the past seven years. Patrick has been in the fire service for more than 22 years with 15 of those years serving the citizens of Frankford. He has previously served as Assistant Chief, Rescue Captain, and Fire Lieutenant and he currently serves as the fire company's Safety Officer and Public Information Officer. He was the 2010 recipient of the Fire Chief's Award and received an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2012 for his grant writing efforts. We are honored to have Patrick as a member of the fire company and congratulate him on his recent award. This is the letter submitted to the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce recommending Patrick for the 2013 Joshua M. Freeman Firefighter of the Year Award: "Over the last several years the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company has reaped the benefits of the hard work and often overlooked commitment of one of our members. Our Grant Coordinator Patrick Quigley has dedicated countless hours to writing grants, attending seminars, following up and completing tedious paperwork associated with approved grants. While his successes started small with a few thousand dollars in forestry grants, it did not take long to receive our first federal grant through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. In 2008 we were awarded over $72,000 to outfit our new fitness room and to establish a health & fitness program for our members. In the years since Patrick continued writing grant requests and has succeeded at an astonishing rate. The highlight of his success took place in 2012 when the fire company was awarded over $132,000 to update and replace all of our air packs. To date, Patrick’s grant writing ability has resulted in nearly a quarter of a million dollars to the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company. Please join us in recognizing and thanking Patrick's dedication to the citizens of Frankford and the members of the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company."
